Florian Johann Deller
1729-1773
Florian is a bread and butter composer for Classical Byways. Highly regarded in his times, many of his works have been lost and those that survive have fallen from favour.
As a young man of 22 he was appointed to the Court Orchestra of the Dukes of Wurttemberg based in Stuttgart. His time in Stuttgart happily coincided with the reign of the flamboyant opera-loving Duke Carl Eugen.
Under his patronage Deller flourish producing 9 operas and over 20 ballets, symphonies and concerti.
In 1771 for reasons that are not clear, he left for Vienna before moving again to Munich where he spent the final year of his life. He was known to and much admired by Mozart. The cause of his death is unknown. He died at the monastery of the Brothers of Mercy in Munich but is unlikely to have been the plague. Although there was a major outbreak in 1773, it did not effect the city.
The piece below from 1763 is one of Deller’s ballet suites:

Lovely. Is "flamboyant opera loving" a euphemism, like "lover of musical theatre"?
Don't forget he also had a night club in Taunton
This is a very pleasing, I can understand why Mozart rated him. The perfect music for a sunny Saturday when the signs of spring are coming.
